How to Connect a Turntable to a Receiver Without a Phono Input
Updated July 2, 2026 · ConnectWizard
To connect a turntable to a receiver without a phono input, add a phono preamp between them. Run the turntable into the preamp, then the preamp into any line-level input (AUX, CD) on the receiver. The preamp boosts the quiet phono signal to line level the receiver can use.
Connection Methods
Phono Preamp 🔌 Wired
Connect the turntable's RCA cables to the phono preamp input.
Connect the turntable's ground wire to the preamp ground.
Run RCA from the preamp output to a receiver line input (AUX/CD).
Select that input on the receiver and set volume low to start.
