How to Connect an Old USB Printer to a Modern Laptop
Updated July 2, 2026 · ConnectWizard
To connect an old USB printer to a modern laptop, use a USB-B to USB-C cable (or a USB-A to USB-C adapter with the printer's existing cable). Plug it in, install drivers if Windows or macOS doesn't add them automatically, and the printer is ready. Most older printers still have up-to-date drivers available.
Connection Methods
USB-B to USB-C 🔌 Wired
Get a USB-B to USB-C cable (the square-ish USB-B end fits the printer).
Connect the printer to the laptop's USB-C port.
Let the OS detect it; install drivers if prompted.
